I think you'll need to be a little bit more specific about "this problem" ...

    QSI Sounds muffled

Sorry I thought I didn"t explain it well enough in my first post. Sounds like the sound is just not coming out like its trapped in the shell. Sorry thanks again

I have an Atlas SD35 with the QSI sound. It IS not very loud and I have it at the highest volume setting. I was thinking of trying a Soundtrax decoder to replace it when I have the time to work on it.

Maybe it is trapped. I'm not familiar with this model, but here's some generic ideas.

If you can get the shell off have a look at the speaker(s) and how the sound gets out - or is it in the fuel tank?. It's not impossible that there's been a manufacturing hiccup and something that should have holes hasn't.
Try it with the shell off too to see what difference it makes.

You may find you can replace a solid plastic 'grille' with an actual grille or make some holes somewhere.

Changing the speaker for a high performance one is probably also worth trying before shelling out for a whole new decoder.

Well, how did you change the volume CVs? Did you perform the indexing?

If you dont know what I am talking about, then you need to read the manual that came with the loco.

You are hijacking a thread. You should start your own thread to be able to track the discussion.
I have the Atlas GP40-2 with factory QSI and two 28mm speakers that face each other inside the shell. Many of the male species never out grow that desire for loud. If you can hear the sounds about 8 to 10 feet away, the sound level should be sufficient. Most run sound locos far too loud. Remember wanting a car with loud mufflers when a teenager?

Following the manual always works for me.

yes I did the Indexing of the Prime Mover( individual sound settings ) it raised the sound but it was very a distorted sound then lowered it back down to it's individual default setting of 11 like it states in the manual. Sorry for over stepping treads just asking for help or seeing if others have this same issuse

What could be is that the speakers are out of phase. This way the sound is put out. The easy way to find out is to switch the wires on one speaker.
