I have 2 trainmasters that i put decoders in. I have an Atlas Dash 8-40 b that i have a speed table set up in. i use this to set the foward and reverse trims in my other dcc locos. the first train master trimmed out beautifully in both fowared and reverse. the second match up perfectly in foward, but when running in reverse it binds at slows speeds (30 scale mph) and at full throttle is it surges fast and then slow. any ideas as to why this action? It is not decoder related...

Can you break in the troublesome TM? That is, run it for a while to see if it smoothes out?

Or did it suck up a piece of ballast (fuzz, dust, whatever?) in the mechanism? I had that problem with a TM.

I've had TMs, and many others, trundle along the track for hours, well under-performing, then break free, as the gear train (I suspect) threw off whatever was bothering it.
