I recently viewed an ebay seller that listed new Atlas motors for sale. He lists one type as a "Slow Speed" motor and then another as "Scale Speed" motor. Can anyone shines some light on this. what is the difference? Scale speed Slow speed? What can these motors be fit into?

I don't think there is any difference between the two. If you are looking to swap out your old "Fast" motors for slow speed or "scale speed". I would be willing to trade all the slow ones you need.....I like the old fast motors.

There is a big difference, A loco with the Slow Speed motor on 12 VDC, will run around 100 SMPH top speed. With the new Scale Speed Motor it will run around 60 SMPH.
This also really improves the low speed running.
I have even changed the truck gearing in the old Kato GP38s to the lower gearing in the GP50s. I also use the U25B gearing in the old RS3/RS11s.

These new motors and parts are available directly from Atlas.

If you like the fast speed motors Scott let me know cause I have a ton of them. I like the slow speed motors.

I like the slow speed motors I changed all my Atlas locos to slow speed so they perform better at slow speed when pulling into the yard.

I like the scale speed motors because I can run my old Atlas/Kato with my brand new Atlas locos without speed matching them.

There is a Big difference between the Fast and the Scale speed motors. The slow speed and scale speed are the same thing.
The older Fast motors will have a Black plastic end where the brushes are and the Scale speed/Slow speed will be light gray plastic.

I just don't want to speed match all of my older stuff (I have a bunch) To my newer Atlas locos.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect!
Top two are fast speed motors.
    Third one slow speed.
Bottom is the new scale speed motor.
Check out the armature segments between the two middle motors, and also the brush holders.

The top two motors are Kato motors. (I can tell by the flywheels) The third one down looks like a Life Like/Walthers (LL motor mounts on it) And the fouth one is indeed a Scale speed Atlas motor.
    I'm pretty sure that I'm not Incorrect....... I've had a few apart.:tb-confused:

I have never changed a Kato or LifeLike motor, everything I have purchased and changed is Atlas. So you are incorrect again, unless someone broke in my home and replaced my Atlas motors with different one.

Ok, let me restate that..... the top two are Atlas/Kato motors (Made in Japan By Kato) These are from some of the first Atlas/Kato split frame locos.
Those are not technically Atlas motors they are Kato and they won't fit in the Made in China Atlas open frame locos. (the flywheels are too big around)

Anyway, A black framed motor with the small flywheels is an Atlas China fast speed motor and A motor with the gray frame and small flywheels is a Scale speed/Slow speed motor.

Maybe the old Kato motors are faster than the Atlas China fast motors, But I wasn't comparing those.

The difference in the two Atlas motors I'm talking about is in the armature, it is very clear. The segments are straight in the fast speed motor, in the slow speed motor they are skewed. They both use black end bells, the fast speed motor didn't have flywheels, the slow speed motor did. The new scale speed motor uses a light grey end bell.

About 3-4 years ago I purchased 3 Atlas replacement motors to replace the motors in 3 Atlas RS3 locos. They ran much slower that the fast speed motors, looked different and had flywheels.
Then about a year ago I purchased 4 more motors what I thought were Slow Speed motors. They were in fact the new Scale Speed motors and ran slower that the ones I had purchased before.

So the slow speed motor is slower than the fast speed motor but not as slow as the scale speed motor. And the scale speed motor is slower than the slow speed motor and the fast speed motor. And the fast speed motor is faster than the slow speed motor and the scale speed motor. But the slow speed motor is faster than the scale speed motor and slower than the scale speed motor. Is that correct???

I guess this boils down to one question

Are there 3 Atlas motors out there?

    200mph
    100mph
    70mph

The scale speed motor Atlas sells that will fit almost any split frame Atlas loco, even some Kato locos, #498100. I just installed one in a first run Atlas/Kato GP35. Now I can run this loco with my brand new Atlas locos without doing any DCC speed matching. You need to swap the flywheels, this requires a very good puller.
