Our friend and tireless reviewer Mark ("Spookshow") notes that the new DCC and ESU Sound "Gold Series" SD50/SD60 chassis will accept the shells from the previous circa 1999 version of the SD60 (but not the SD60M). My question: Was anyone actually done this? I have a custom painted SD60 for my "home" railroad and I'm thinking about just swapping shells instead of inventing new swear words by trying to install a decoder, sound or otherwise. (This chassis is known for poorly fitting "drop in" boards-- and I have a good example of this.) My second question: Any opinions on the sound from the new SD60?
I have done this to several of my older locos.. As for opinions I think they sound fine for their size, I turn down all the loco master sound and tweak other levels.
