Does anyone know the meaning of the parts numbers for Atlas diesels? For instance the rear headlight and number board lenses for a GP 35 is 9460206 while for a GP40 the rear headlight and lens part number is 485206 while a SD35 the part number is 483206. The GP 35 and the GP 40 are from the 'classic' line while the SD35 is a 'Masterline' model. My brain is telling me that these are the same part as the last three digits in the part numbers are the same and the first three or four numbers designate the locomotive and possibly where manufactured (Japan or China). Is this correct? The reason I ask is that I lost the rear headlight and number board lens for a SD35 and Atlas does not show that part in stock.

The rear lens is not the same for the GP35 as the GP40 or SD35. I've never tried using the GP38/40/40-2 rear lens with an SD35. While waiting for the decal setting solution to dry on what I'm working on I figure why not try it? I was able to take the rear lens from a SD35 I am prepping for paint and install it in both a GP38 and 40 shell. As far as part numbers I've no idea.

Atlas is very good at responding to parts inquiries. You might want to contact them to see what they say.

Yeah, I planned on calling them but with everybody staying home because of the virus I might not get a response. Also, Atlas' website under 'locomotive parts' does not list the SD35 rear headlight and number boards as being in stock but they have the GP 35 and GP 40 parts in stock.

    From a recent Atlas e-mail:

Atlas has temporarily suspended walk-in repairs, pick-ups and all visitors as of this week. If you need assistance, please call 908-687-0880 for a customer service representative (9-5 M-F EST).

Note that NJ has a shelter in place order and all non-essential businesses have been ordered closed.

That's what I figured. Well I'll call and report back to the board on what I learned.

Well I ordered the GP40 lens. The Atlas parts guy said the difference in numbers (only one digit, a 3 instead of a 5) could be a typo as it has happened before. The part numbers of the front head light and number boards for both the SD35 and the GP40 are the same so I'm hoping they share the same rear headlight too.
