You know about the goofy cab they have don't you? I don't remember where they came from, but I think they had pre-Conrail roots. Somewhere along the way somebody put different controls in them or something that required more room. There's just no way to model DM&E without some kind of kitbashing and scratch building eh?!? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=16520
rrpic says ex-PC and ex-PRSL, but I think they're ex-Eureka. But whatever... I'm not much of a proto-spotting guy and can't really tell what might be goofy about the cab, so stop raining on my parade! -Mark
Rain? I thought you liked a good project? After all... you did track down the only horst air filter on earth to build an SD10!
Conrail had those, they were ex PRSL. The cab was built out like that to allow room for dual control stands. Reading had some SD45s that were like that as well. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=193306 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2730516
The current schedule has the flex and sectional being shipped from China in March and the turnouts in April.
That's the trouble with DM&E - except for the Atlas GP40's they're all projects! BTW, I finally figured out what you guys were talking about vis'a'vis the cab front. I suppose that's a deal-breaker for Atlas? -Mark
I would have thought so... but given the depth of knowledge displayed here by Mr. Graf... They do other Geeps in different phases with and without dynamic brakes and steam pipes and stuff... maybe one of these goofy cabs isn't out of line? Especially if the same cab could be stuck on an SD45 too?? And it's Eastern stuff, that seems to be a winner no matter who you talk to... Start the rumor mill! Hey Paul, if you make a GP38 with a goofy cab I'll buy a couple, DM&E or not! (there's all of the sudden decals available to make just about any DM&E engine in any version!) Great news on the track products, I'm sure you guys are as anxious to get them in as we are!
well, you guys made the correct GP30 cab.....any chance Paul? Guys, at least it is not as bad as being an SP modeler with cabs, The SP had L window cabs! Paul, one more thing to think of...IF you guys make a cab for the GE U25B with a split windsheild and add a nose light, you will have a good model (well, it would still be missing the roof light, bell and rachet brake handle) for an SP U28B! You could get 4 more numbers out of the U25B for the SP then! (these were ran by the SP until 1979) The NYC (P&LE), RI, and MILW also had these.... http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/b-boat_photos/7028_sp-u28b-bob_dengler.jpg
I don't foresee tooling up the extended cab. It would also require a new nose and window glazing tools. Probably too much expense for the return we'd get. The late U25B/early U28B is an interesting proposition.
Come on, guys - use a TCS CN decoder; 10-minute job and actually not significantly harder than putting in a new board in a DCC-ready version, which usually requires a bit of solder on the contact pads to work anyway. Let Atlas save their investment dollars for some new stuff! John C.
I agree, TCS decoders are a simple enough solution (once you figure out how to deal with those stupid motor-mount donuts). But I'd still like to see a decoder-equipped version from Atlas. I mean, if Bachmann can do it... Well, not sayin', just sayin'. -Mark
Just wanted to plug Missouri Pacific (Jenks Blue) for a future GP38-2 release. Atlas released the early GP38 in Mopac, but there were only six of those on the MP roster compared to 326 GP38-2s in a few different non-DB versions.
I'd be in for a couple of those! MoPac has always been something I flirted with but have never bought and I would buy a pair of these. Those screaming eagles would be easy to spot in a yard filled with SF power.
