Atlas C424/425 page Details taken from the link above... Wanna know something wierd...the two old Atlas ones I've detailed up are BN4241 and N&W1003....spooky!
Wow, nice! I wonder if my other Alco diesels (two RS3s, one RS1, and an S2) need a big brother or two.....? They'd look plumb NASTY running on the club layout!
They will also be released by (I beleive) Hobbycraft Canada in the following Road Names/Numbers: 550250 - CP # 8300, Maroon / Grey, Script Lettering, Yellow Numbers 550250 - Undecorated 550252 - CP Rail # 4215, Late Version Action Red / No Multimark 550253 - CP Rail # 4223, Late Version Action Red / No Multimark 550254 - CP # 4215, Maroon / Grey, Script Lettering, Maroon Numbers 550255 - CP Rail # 4225, Action Red / Multimark & Striped Cab Front 550256 - CP Rail # 4223, Action Red / Multimark & Nose Stripes 550257 - CN # 3218, Black / Red / Grey With Noodle Harald 550258 - CN # 3235, Black / Red With Slanted Grey Stripes. From what I understand, this is a first release and is limited to a total of 288 of each and is also due in December. Terry.
I own four of the originals that came with the Kato motors. Three of them have been upgraded to DCC and the fourth one is ready and waiting on my workbench. It is nice to see that Atlas is doing another run in different paint schemes.
<font color="336633">They always know when to announce things dont they, I been waiting for these for ages and when they do them I cant afford any I really need about 1 C424's and 4 C425's</font>
This news oughta shut up some of the piddlers & moaners on the Atlas forum! I wouldn't mind a C424 myself, to go with my RS3s and RS1.
You know, I think from now on I may wait for the re-release of some of the Athearn models. I remember seeing, just as little as six months ago, a dealer trying to sell Kato/Atlas loco's (I believe C-424's) for $75-80 at a train show. Now the joke is on him, when you can get a decoder equipped one for just slightly more. Let me tell you the chinese motor is runs just as well as the Kato motor. BTW, from my own experience, the motor that Atlas has for its GP40 will interchange with the older C-424's and C-425's. I know because I got a little sloppy on one of my first decoder installs and screwed up the kato motor.
That will be good to know, since my RS3s and RS1 have Kato drives. As for decoders, I'm pretty well DCC - free at this point- perhaps down the road as things change I'll switch, as the concept looks great. I'm not anti-DCC, just non-DCC (please, no flames)
Another Alco in Reading! I remember years ago trying to rework an AHM C424 into a Phase 1 to match the Reading units. What a ton of work that was. This is a great time to be a model railroader.
FYI, there was a recent review comparing drives old and new for the Atlas C424. Mention was made of the significant flywheel difference in size and performance. Coasting is longer with the old one, less on the new one. ( old one has larger flywheel ) Also, mention was made of the different drive shaft configuration. Just tyring to help, I think both are great models unless you are looking for Canadian body styles that match CP well. I have pre-ordered the new CP style undec due soon, so I can more accurately model the M&E pair with the facier paint jobs.
