Anyone out there actually store these in their boxes AFTER attaching the bridge plates, etc, or do you just leave them off? In the same line of questioning, do you permanently attach the hitches to the decks, then add the trailers when you run the trains, or do you (as some have told me) attach the hitch to the trailer and just set it on the flatcar before you run it? My problem is that presently I have no permanent place to set up a layout and leave it up with the rolling stock on it, so I have to set it up, run it awhile, and take it down...these flats and trailers are beautiful models but I'm still debating on the best way to have them to where I can still put them back in their storage boxes... Open to any and all suggestions; thanks! Tim
Hello Tim, I came up with the same questions in my mind, and then formulated this approach.Instead of attaching the hitches etc to the cars. I attach the trailers to the hitches and leave the cars in their jewel cases. I came up with the idea trying to figure out how I would attach the pending pipe loads on the BLMA pipe flats. I will build the supports and attach them to the bottom of the pipe loads. That way I can store the cars as needed in their cases, and store the loads carefully too. After figuring out this approach, I did a similar approach to the the Trainworx flat cars and the their trailers in the hitches. It works pretty well. Just need to make sure of a quality storage plan for the assembled trailer/hitch assemblies.
I remove the plastic nest, and use foam cut into shapes to fit around the cars and trailers. But I also glue my trailers to the decks of the flats.
