After myself and other modelers contacted Atlas regarding the problem with the front windows being too small on their pre-production HO scale GE Dash 8-40B models, Atlas took steps to correct this problem before producing the production models. Here is an email received from Atlas earlier today:

Welcome to Atlas Model Railroad Company's E-News Flash!
Subject: HO DASH 8-40B Locomotive Update

    You provided input, we listened.

Did you know that the windows on our highly detailed HO DASH 8-40B locomotives have been corrected to achieve the ultimate in prototypical accuracy? And that's all because on-line modelers like you provided invaluable input to make this model better. And we rechecked our research and made it better. As you well know, Atlas is only interested in creating models one way-the Right Way. Thank you.

Speaking of the DASH 8, it was a HUGE hit at the Springfield Show this
    past weekend.

This is our most detailed HO locomotive to date. With highly detailed coupler cut bars, MU hoses, snowplow, shock absorbers, piping on trucks, a die-cast underframe, crew figures, directional lighting, a simulated roof-top beacon, separately-installed scale windshield wipers,
metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, Atlas' rendition looks exactly like the real thing!

Built to last with precision engineering, the new DASH 8-40B engine also features Accumate knuckle couplers and a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual-flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds.

A member of the Atlas MasterT Locomotive series, these units will come equipped with the HO Dual-Mode Decoder pre-installed. This decoder allows the locomotive to operate flawlessly on any analog or digital layout.

Photos are posted NOW on our web site at http://www.atlasrr.com/highlights/hodash840b.asp

Coming in April to your favorite hobby store.

They are well worth the wait!

P.S. Please be advised that Atlas distributors have purchased nearly every unit available from Atlas in this run. This means that you should place your orders as soon as possible with your dealer to avoid any disappointment.

This is a prime example of why it is good for modelers to provide manufacturers with constructive crticizm on their products.

Exactly, Chris. Some people tend to forget that you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. I've seen some nasty bashing of Atlas products on their own forum(usually over minor, petty things, like headlight locations and beacons), and it really bugs me, since it's uncalled for, and doesn't do anybody any good. Hats off to Atlas for listening and making a better product. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to getting some of these!
