Yet another question. What is the preferred (?) method for securing turnouts to the layout surface? I'm not sure how to approach this. My concern is the constant stress a switch machine (either manual or electric) puts on the turnout. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Got clearance from the boss to break ground on the layout after Christmas. Can hardly wait. Chris
Hi Chris. Can't wait to see some pictures of your start on your layout. I don't know what most other modelers do, but I don't fasten my turnouts to anything. I let them float and depend on the connecting track to hold them in place. I have never had any problem with this and makes it easier to repair a switch or change it out without damaging the roadbed.
