HI.. I have just brought 2 athearn SW7 locos but they are the old open framed motors. I'm working on re-motoring them which I have located some can motors which will be DCC'ed, but I wish to replace the wheels but I'm not sure what size wheels I need.. yes I know but I'm just checking before I order some. Can someone help. Thanks Stuart
Check with NWSL, they have 40" diameter nickel-silver wheels that will fit your trucks and will give you better pulling power as they are slightly smaller in diameter than the stock Athearn wheels. Dean The Train Doctor
Better yet break down and spend nine dollers and get the NWSL catalog.. It is money well spent. Most of the information is available on their website but it is hard to navigate and quite confusing without a hard copy in your hand for refrence...That is at least for me...The key to replacing the wheels is in the style of trucks..The older ones had metal side frames while the newer ones had slip on and off plastic ones.. the plastic ones have seperate bearings for the axles... you can get the wheels in a variety of sizes 40', 42" etc.and tread width.. Have fun... Tom
