Hi friends A photo of the Athearn F59 PHI has been sent to the N scale Varnish group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/N-scaleVarnish/files/AthearnScoop.jpg
That is great looking! I assume that this photo was done on an Athearn test module as I see several of their other proposed products in that pic including trucks and billboard. Probably going to see that little module in an advertisement soon. Russ
The Athearn F59PHI is shown just outside of Altona, Illinois on the Galesburg & Savanna Rwy. Co..... not an Athearn test module!!! The bridge was built by fellow listmember Mike Skibbe. Charlie
In case the link above does not work try this one I've asked Charlie to explain the brass-colored F59PHI but he is probably busy over at the Rosemont show. ===== http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=517&thumb=1 ===== eNjoy
I'll confirm that the bridge is in fact N-scale... and by simple deduction... that makes the Athearn samples appear to be N-scale too! As for the brass color... its most likely a painted plastic shell, and not an actual brass model. Athearn has done that in the past when showing new HO offerings. When Charlie's back, he can confirm that, as he actually got to touch the thing = ) [ 05. September 2002, 17:36: Message edited by: Mike Skibbe ]
No, I did not touch the one in the photo. It is Kirk's, and he doesn't share. I did touch the one in the Athearn booth, and it is indeed plastic. I doubt that Kirk's is made out of the metal Gold; but Kirk thinks it is going to turn to Au in twenty or thirty years.... Mark your calendar for the July, 2032 N Scale Collector Auction (location to be announced at the 2031 Convention)!!!! Seriously, the detail on the unit is really nice... there is individually applied detail on the trucks. Charlie
