For what it's worth, my NCE PowerCab can reprogram the Tsunami-equipped Athearn N scale FP45 just fine, no additional power booster needed. I've one of my local DCC experts fiddling with the Tsunami settings for some time in attempts to improve the slow speed Step 1 performance... all the decoder settings, he did on the fly with PowerCab.
Well this all sure sounds good to me because I placed my order on line today and I can’t wait. I even opened up my PowerCab box in preparation for the big event.
Well my Power Cab didn't do too well with a new FP-45. But it wasn't the Power cab's fault, the engine was DOA from the get go. Now I'm impatiently waiting for the replacement to show this week. I can hardly wait to experience the Tsunami Sound!
My replacement FP-45 showed up yesterday and I could not be more pleased. It does eat up energy, around .35 amp with 20 coal cars on a 2% grade. It starts a little quickly at step 1 but I'll work on that when it's broke in more.
Here's a link to a procedure for setting a Tsunami to run slowly: http://www.litchfieldstation.com/DCC-University/FaqTsunami.htm About half way down the page under the section "I Can't Get My Loco to Run Well Slowly."
I received my NCE USB interface today and I got notice from UPS that they picked up my Athearn F45 today for shipment. I ordered the F45 before the USB Interface. Maybe I should have ordered both at the same place. Well this gives me some programming practice time before it gets here.biggrin:
