Great looking conversion! The Santa Fe kept some of their 1480 class 4-4-2's as reserve power for the Lubbock-Amarillo local passenger train right up to the early 50's. Robert
Thanks for the comments. One of the reasons the engine is numbered 603 is that it was one of the last three in service in the late 40s early 50s and they were used quite sucessfully in freight service along with passenger consists of 8-10 cars. They and the 2-6-2s did not work out well on the GN but both did yeoman service on the SP&S.
