.....We seem less concerned about the Atlas Forums coming back on schedule, no? Where are they - still delayed in new software development? Not coming back at all, despite proclamations otherwise? Do we care, or is this our new home?
Maybe with Paul & Cory here & at railwire, they feel they can still keep "there hand on our pulse".They can see what were up to & still do their work. A major plus is they don't have to play cop anymore when the flames start up I'm sure it will be up soon. But ass I've stated earlier,THIS IS MY 1st STOP !!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I'll check in when Atlas is up,but I'm not going to sit like I did. With all this time away from my layout,The ideas are on paper.Once I get home,LOOK OUT BABY,IT'S MODELLING TIME!!!!!!!!!! [ 28. At this point in time there is a major disconnect between the Atlas forum & their members. It would have been more appropriate if the folks at Atlas had updated their initial announcement regarding the shutdown of the Atlas Forum till "sometime in August". Most of the folks who were participants in the Atlas forum, have for the most part made other arrangements. Perhaps it is for the better, that the Atlas forum remains dormant. For the last two months of it's life, the folks at Atlas seemed to have lost complete control of the postings by many of those who participated. The number of "locked" threads especially in the HO forum seemed to happen at an all too regular interval and many lost interest in posting in that environment.
I would like to see the Atlas forum return, and as August wanes I check more and more often. If it doesn't return, fine. I'll be here either way.
I don't particularly care where we all wind up as long as it doesn't get too fragmented. Trainboard has served us well and I would hate to see an Atlas forum reactivation detract from the activity here. I'm sure our admins here are fully committed to keeping this forum available and active; something that may not be the case over at Atlas. My only disappointment with the Atlas forum in the past has been the periodic "downtimes" in the summer and during the holidays. The holidays, in particular, is one of those times when I have some extra time to work on the layout and it is helpful to have an active forum for questions and archive access.
Software upgrade = vacation in August for site administrator, is my bet. Not a real wonderful way to run a large company. Graf got promoted, but I think they could have kept the site open with another "moderator". Not a smart move since they have forced an introduction to a more comprehensive site to many, including me, who was not aware it existed to this extent. An e-mail to all members of its forum with more concrete and believable information would have been appreciated. If they can generate the news flashes, a board can be kept open.
Interesting how N folks and other gaugers coexist and interact on Trainboard by its design, more so than on the Atlas forum. I'll be here a lot more than there. "N scaler, plays well with others".
Well guys as we have always said, everybody is welcome here and we do encourage members to post. with railimages, railseek and trainboard keeps us admins busy but seeing the patronage increase here has been very rewarding. We do understand that when Atlas returns that some will go back to Atlas only but we hope most of you will still use Trainboard as well. You may ask why we have different sites but we need advertising to keep here and especially rail images running. Anyway I think it wont be long until the Atlas forum is back but as I said look forward to keeping all of you guys here as well.
Yes, as Paul said, we are happy that many of 'refugees' from the Atlas forum have found that Trainboard is a great site and not quite as often portrayed on the Atlas forum The extra participation from you guys has made the site even better. Hopefully you will stick around and make us your home, or at least second home
Shameless, if elegant, self promotion. But you deserve it. By the way- to EVERYONE- if you use rail images or even if you just look, please contribute. It keeps things going and helps support this board with ideas. It is certainly worth a few dollars a year (rather than purchase even one expensive piece of rolling stock) to pick up tips, both written and visual to improve and add more enjoyment to your layout.
Hello all, I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks now. I recognize some of you from the other forum. I was hoping that it would return but if not I think this will do fine. It seems to be a litle more low key here which I like. Jeff
I don't miss Atlas too much - I like the more relaxed pace here - I have time to do a little more modelling and spend less time tied to the computer! Dave
I was never concerned from the start. Are our lives so wrapped up in these forums that it’s such a huge deal if the Atlas forum comes up late or not at all?? If they come back, fine. If they don’t, fine. It’s not the end of my world either way. This place (and some others) are fine places to hang out anyway.
No, I don't have any inside info, but when someone says the downtime is due to vacation, and you look at the calendar and see that two months have gone by ...
BTW- When software revisions are made, the old system keeps on operating until the actual date of changeover and if there are problems, the old system remains operating until the bugs are removed. I would bet that Atlas is not manually paying it's vendors and entering shipments in big cloth ledger books with credits entered in the same fashion.
