Well, I was looking at BN SD60s photos to determine if they had rear view mirrors or wind deflectors and what did I discover? I discovered that 8300-8302 came with ratchet brakes and not brake wheels as the Atlas model. Funny I could miss something so glaring after detailing them two seperate times and weathering them. So off with the brake wheels. I cut a notch where the wheel housing was and will build a ratchet brake unit for all three. Step one, get out the razor saw.
Tony, I hate making those kind of mistakes:tb-mad: Like my SD35's and their raised dust bins. Espee units had flat dust bins... Never did fix them. Glad to see you have the guts to admit it and fix it:tb-wink:
Really...you should just stop modelling altogether Seriously kidding! I hate when that happens. Thats part of the problem with model trains is that ITRW we tend to miss things that are right in front of us, however on the model they stick out like a sore thumb! T
You don't have to do all 3 units , On at least one you could break the brake wheel off , then glue a plastic person leaning against where the rat-sh*t brake alcove should be , thus covering up the area . That will save you the heartbreak of doing all 3 .
Same thing happened on my SP SD44R (Photo in rail images). I was doing the exact same thing. Checking other details, then I noticed the ratchet brake on the nose. DOH! It was an easy enough fix. Looks like you've got it under control. Don't sweat it, Wolf
Finished the ratchet brake. Made from stryene strips and some wire. I filled the notch with a piece .020 styrene and added the pieces.
Sometimes I misunderstand topic headings. I thought this one was going to be about detailing noses on N scale people.
Nice work, Tony! I would have raided the scrapbox, and hacked upa n Atlas nose to build that, without realizing that scrap pieces would do the trick, too. Well done!
