Hey, is there ANY chance in the world that a Baldwin AS-616 will be released soon in N scale??? ATLAS MAYBE??? I could really use 2 of them in SP tiger stripe paint for my SD&AE layout, which I plan to move into the transition era of 1951. (this would help with building up a passenger car roster, since I'd only need to kitbash 2 SD&AE harriman combines--for mixed freights--from Wheels of time cars, rather than buying a half-dozen SP baggage and coaches to run full passenger trains of the 1940's)
Magic 8 Ball Says: "My Sources say No" and I tried it 3 times. :tb-wink: Maybe they'll do that one right after Kato releases the SDP40 and Athearn does an N Scale MP15-AC.
:tb-hissyfit:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Oh, well. maybe I'll just kitbash one from an atlas rsd-4/5 mech, two hacked up baldwin vo-1000 shells, and scratchbuild truck sideframes and other stuff.
but hasn't kato been focusing on mostly modern engines lately like the SD70ACe? (other than the daylight gs-4 lettered for prewar coming out soon)
There are probably other engines which would be done before you'd see an AS-616 from any manufacturer. I recall seeing a couple created with custom made shells. But that was over 25 years ago. Boxcab E50
25 years ago?! I wasn't BORN yet when those were made! Well, I figure if I can take a generic bachmann 2-8-0 and make an SP tenwheeler, making an as-616 from an rsd-4/5 and vo-1000 shells shouldn't be too hard, right? The only thing is I've never kitbashed a diesel before, and it took destroying about 4 perfectly good n scale steamers before I got good at kitbashing them.
It will be different, yes, but is should also prove easier. For one thing, you can use those hood doors as backups to make sure your cut lines are straight.
I'd say a qualified YES. You will see an announcement about a loco in that family that may trigger a future release of a AS616 and other related Baldwin Road Switchers. Charlie Vlk Railroad Model Resources
In case anyone is curious as to what they look like: http://usloki.tripod.com/images/as616/as616blw1.gif New Page 1 Is a great site if you want a quick idea of what a given diesel looks like.
Uh-oh! I've been quite reserved in my requests for new motive power over the past year... hoping instead to save money for other things. This little hint of a Baldwin or Baldwin-like roadswitcher has my wallet trembling. Don't know if its trembling in fear or anticipation... yet. :blink6wa:
This is encouraging! Maybe a 4-axle AS-16 is in the works? Or maybe even something from the earlier DRS series? Any of them would be terrific news.
Is this just another veiled reference to the Baldwin centercabs that we've heared about for the the last 2-3 years? Jason
I was on a 3-person 'team' that was working on a resin one. I got the sideframes ready and done and then the team effectively dissolved. But if anybody needs sideframes in resin that work with an Atlas C-whatever truck, hey, let me know.... I still have the molds. We were looking at the big centercab. Not gonna happen, now. I've been looking at a bunch of Baldwin bodies and those louvers - to get them right - are just about impossible to etch or build up and I can't find anything else quite like them out there.
Hey, There is some 8 page thread over on Railwire about Kato's net big announcement and all the ensuing speculation. You don't think that this means Kato is doing a .................... Nah, Tom L
