Greg- I'd not heard that such a paint job was being applied. Is this also part of their so-called "heritage" program? Then there'll be others fortcoming??? Boxcab E50
Hi Ken, The WP 484 was repainted in Portola by the museum with museum money. It is part of the WP collection along with a newly acquired sister caboose 483. It was one of the last new cabooses WP received before the merger. It would be nice if UP were doing it but alas that isn't the case. It received the same paint scheme it was delivered in by the way. When the hospital train took equipment back to Cheyenne UP requested that it come along. The hospital train had equipment the Portola Railroad museum had stored for the UP steam program and will be restored and saved. It is on its way back to Portola in these pictures and will be used again when we leave the museum for what ever reason. As an aside, it cost $5000 IIRC and we have received about $3000 in donations so far. We'd hoped to get enough to do the 483 but haven't got the money. Greg
Greg- Oops! I misunderstood. But it's sure good to see a real "heritage" Western Pacific paint job! Boxcab E50
Put a slightly lightened copy of the engine on page two leaving the original photo as is on page one. When saved together on page three, it will look as if the sunbeams are truly high lighting the engine. (per my big book on PhotoShop).
Pierce, thanks for the tips on using PSP7 more fully - I have never explored just what it will do Will have a play with it and see what I can do
JR, I like the cropped choice A as per Pierce's suggestion better than the original - just shows that cropping can be crucial to produce a good picture. But I still prefer choice B. Very dramatic
The cropped version is more dramatic. Just as I expected. Alan, my pleasure. PSP is a great tool, in my opinion. If you want to see what some real artists have done using PSP, check out the Paint Shop Pro Interactive Zone: http://www.pspiz.net/ They also have many excellent tutorials on that site. Some could be useful in creating rather dramatic scenic backdrops.
Thanks again Pierce. The pics in the gallery are far more exotic than I need to do, so I should be able to do simple stuff like changing light or dark areas
The people on PSPIZ are a relatively small group of very talented artists. Many of them don't even us a camera. Many others do. In either case, they have a lot of good and useful informatioin, the their pictures are an inspiration.
Is this shot more of a forced perspective? Or is the water tower truly that large? Boxcab E50 </font>[/QUOTE]Forced perspective, with long telephoto. The tanks isn't all THAT large, but it is large. If that made any sense......
Fun with Fotos Hemi, try lighting up that flag with your flash...sometimes it works for a pretty cool pic. I'm reviving this thread with my own arsty-fartsy stuff because I'm too embarassed to start my own! hehe Here we have a similar cloud/sun shot... The ominous clouds backing the brightly lit elevator are on showcase here.... Finally, another pic I shot yesterday...the unit was slightly blurry (moving about 50mph) in the clean photo so I hacked it up with Photoshop for fun...
Hemi, That's a great one! Very cool. The "flat-face" ACe makes that a particularly nice surface area to reflect light from.
