I can not find my source to Mobile & Ohio RR locating in Artesia because Columbus, MS did not want the smoke and noise of passing trains. I have gone back and searched for hours, but can not find that bit of history. I joined this site to ask this board for help. I am not lazy. Just have given up the Google search and research. Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but I'm quite sure that someone in here will be able to. All they have to do is find this thread. Hang in there buddy.

Bill is right. It might take a day or two for this thread to be found, but I lam sure that if there is an answer to be found someone here will have it. Meanwhils, welcome to TrainBoard. I invite you to browse other parts of the board and have some fun.

Thanks Ironhorseman and Peirce. I am sure I would become a train fan in short order if I got into it more. Genealogy takes a lot of my time now. The 1920 U.S. Census mentioned a road between the M&O RR and Aberdeen Road in Chickasaw County, MS. I have learned a good bit about the Mobile & Ohio.

    Hi Darrel,
You might try contacting someone in the Jackson (MS) Society of Model Engineers. They may have a member who can help you. I'll see some folks on Saturday who are either GM&O "nuts" or MS rail historians. They may have some leads.

    Good luck, Hank

Darrel, here's a website that might give you some information, Artesia Railroad History . There may be others also. I hit this one through Google with "History Artesia MS". Possibly a letter to Mr. Harvey Cook of the Artesia Historical Commitee may provide more information.
    Good luck, Hank

    Hank,
Thanks. I will go there. This will teach me to record my sources as I go. There are so many sites about the Mobile & Ohio RR.

    This is mainly to Hank.
The link you recommended was exactly where I got my original information about why the railroad came to Artesia. The site is Lowndes County Mississippi, Artesia history.

Thanks to Hank and all the others for your help.
