Something I found interesting is despite the SW1 being in first produced in 1938, all the paint schemes on offer are mid 60s or later. It seems like that is the era Arnold is trying to target not the transitional era which is most companies first thought.

But I'm not complaining, the CNW in 1970s is one of my favorite railroad/era combos.

My interest would be, of course, Milwaukee Road c.1965-1968, and Seattle & North Coast's one unit.

Any hint of MSRP? At a glance I did not see mention.

I may be tempted with the CNW but not until I see the cab end.

I have only German MRSP (129.90€) available and a pricing from a German online store:
The SW 1 is announced with 114.90€ and this is way cheaper than Arnolds U25C (MRSP 169.90€) which is sold for 149.90€ in that store.

Not really a bargain, but ..

Love the idea that they are doing both early and late SW1s. While, as someone mentioned already, they are initially offering these in 1960s schemes the possibilities are great!!!

The amount quoted converts to almost $150.00 USD. With my budget, may be getting beyond reach.

Seriously? If this is a *remotely* decent locomotive, $130 MSRP for a switcher is very welcome, all things considered.

Keep in mind, this isn't an "M.U." type loco. You're not gonna have people buying a dozen of these like you might with a Geep or an SD40-2. Any true switcher has to be a tenuous business decision because of that fact...the volume is gonna be lower, thus the price will have to reflect that.

If it's a total dud that can barely pull itself, then maybe we'll talk, but I really can't understand being this price sensitive otherwise. It's in line with recent switcher announcements, and if one wants an SW1, I hardly think this price should be an issue.

Google told me $131.16, is that not right?

Figure it will street around 100 bucks if so.

That site shows the European MRSP for the U25C being 170 Euros which works out to $194 USD. The American MRSP for the U25C on the other hand is just $160.

So, expect the MSRP to be lower for us in the states and then add in the retailer discount it might end up being a bargain after all.

Let's pray to the creator of the universe that the new Arnold/Hornby SW-1 does not use the same mechanism as the Arnold S-2 with its:
    --loud motor
    --cracking gears
    --and wobbling spring drive.

The fact that it says- Flywheels- gives me hope.

I hope the updated the axle gears over what Arnold used to put on the S2s. Virtually all of them that I have are split.

I plugged the "German MSRP" from Post #9 of 129.90 (Euros) into a converter and it showed somewhat under $149.00. Close enough to $150.00 USD. I did not use the German discount store number as until firmly price announced, we can't even begin to guess what we'd see here in the USA.

So I just tried it again, and the value of a Euro has dropped in this past hour or two! With several tries I am now getting $147.95 to 147.98. If these numbers held true, a theoretical twenty percent discount puts us at about $128.00.

Huh, I did it a dozen times earlier and kept getting around $130. Did it just now and it's $148.25. ??? Does it fluctuate that much all the time?

I don't know if it fluctuates that much, but to me it does so too much on any given day.
