Just got 2 of these at a good price and was wondering if anybody striped the paint off these yet? Easy?
For some reason I thought the shell was metal which I may have got the Atlas S2 mixed up with this SW1.
Another thought can you buy extra shells form Arnold/Hornby?
They do run very smooth and look nicer than the photo's I have seen on line.
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the Arnold Alco S-2 has a metal body. The SW1 has had many drive mechanizes under them so depending on which one it is, there are very different issues as far as running and smoothness.

    Rick,

Here is what I did with mine. Paint/lettering came off very easy. And - yes, you can purchase just the shell from Hornby USA - they were very easy to do business with.

Thanks for the replies and sorry didn't know there were replies.
Good price on amazon couple of weeks ago and got two but only lasted one day.Next day was even more cheaper but I piddle around till they went back up. Have been checking every day since but no luck.

Thanks Wolf need to check there web sight better and very nice SP unit.

The drive changes I believe they meant the Arnold S-2 unit but I maybe wrong since I only have the two Sw1 and no S2 from Arnold.

Cool beans guys thanks and if anyone else repainted a SW1 I hope they post it here . Who know I may have to replicate one that is posted here.

Well. I was not going to say but $85.72 for two which is about $47 and change, sorry for any cringing. Next day I checked my order thinking I may not get them for that price for some reason but it said order will be sent in 3 days. I did get them but for a couple of days I was waiting for the email saying out of stock or sorry can't sell for that price.
It was weird that the UPS tracking number said it was coming from New Jersey but the label on the padded envelope said Kentucky. They shipped it in a padded envelope and I thought o no the cases came opened and loco's slopped around but they were still in case. Had this happened to me on a Ebay purchase where they did not seal the cases and loco's came out and broke off the couples .horns. etc. Not to happy but seller refunded about half the amount I paid for the two.
I check to see if this price is on any of them but still most are in the $90 to $129 range .

When I checked after you first saying something, I was able to find one for $75...but even that price is gone now. Same loco, same seller, same road, $120. If you EVER see that price again, LMK!

I sure will let you know. They change prices a lot
I only got one book from amazon before this so I'm not sure how they do the pricing but since I have been checking the price does change a bunch of times.
Seems like I got real lucky on these but will keep checking.

Amazon uses some sort of algorithm to change their prices on all sorts of things. I'm not really sure what goes into it, but I'd expect page views on a item would effect it. So, just to be safe if you find a loco there at a great price don't click on it until you're ready to buy.

K-59 I think you are correct. Since I posted this $75 is lowest I have seen since but most of the time it is $129.
I have not check each loco but have all on one search page so hope that works.
For once I think I got lucky this time.
Sorry guys I will let you all know if it changes because I like to get another .
