I have one of these S2's but it needs a pilot conversion. I'm not happy with a MT coupler and a gaping hole. I believe Sunrise used to do one but I've emailed them some while ago but not had any response. If anybody has one that's surplus or knows where one can be obtained I'd be grateful. Thanks Paul
Don't forget to check out proto photo's of your model, not all S-2's had a filled in pilot: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=70261 Of course the "hole" is a little bigger on the model.
Absolutely right. In my case I do need 'em but that's a very interesting pic you posted the link to! Happily I'm sorted for the time being, thanks to Russell
I just mentioned it because I have a S-2 myself that will be painted in Erie colors someday. I was looking all over for the sunrise conversion for the pilot. Then I happened to notice in photo's of Erie S-2's that the pilot was open and that a 1015 coupler box looks pretty close to the proto's coupler box. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/el/loco/erie501alb.jpg It does look like a little modification from a stock Arnold model is in order, but the whole thing doesn't need filled. Really it doesn't matter if you want the full pilot, I was just offering a suggestion to check a real photo of what your modeling.
The gaping maw on the stock Arnold S2 still requires some filling and a place to mount a coupler. The Sunrise parts can be trimmed away below the coupler and come very close to what Alco delivered to many customers. I ended up trimming some MT RS-2 pilot parts for mine as I forgot I bought some of the Sunrise parts.
Still looking for the dual gauge conversion a bloke did on the yahoo Nn3 site.used a small block of aluminium machined up to suit. This was for a DRGW S2 tho based in Antonito I tink....
