Arnold Rapido W Germany Loco NEW SPECIFIC help please.

I need help with a used Loco I picked up at (believe it or not) a LHS in NJ today. I'm completly hosed. Maybe. Since I opened the chassis and even resoldered, I think I jus made an expensive mistake.

It moved but made an awful screeching noise, so I decided to clean it up.......
Although I didn't think I did anything wrong, on reassembly no motion. I turned up the power and both bulbs blew.

I found the screeching noise when I applied power to the motor pickups. It's the motor, a very light very cheap looking thing. It sparks inside and screeches.

1st question - Did Arnold ever make a drop in motor replacement. If so, is it available.

The little board on 1 end seems to have maybe a capacitor or something underneath it. If I touch the wire, just past the connection to the component and ground it, I get power. If I go from the other side I get nothing.

2nd question - Could I have blown this cap?

I looked around on line, it looks like no parts avail. Anyone with access to affordable parts... I'd appreciate it.

It seems like the only thing that I can do is have a teeny tiny shelf queen.

I'm not sure how to resize a pic per trainboard rules.

If you upload pictures to an album in Rail Images they get automatically resized.

That looks like the Rapido # 0234 which was a model of the Series E 40 of the German Federal Railroad. Fresh light oil on the motor bearings and worm gear and it may quiet down a bit.

    Gentlemen
I did not mean to cause tension here. I thank you all. I merely asked Chrisoph, because of some other interactions before and his name stuck in my mind. The end of my story is that I will be returning the loco this week. I am going to use the info you have all provided to start picking a loco
