Was surfing the web a day ago and came across this. Remember some inquiries on military stuff and a discussion of rail guns I came across this neat train for coast defense in WW2 Alaska and Pacific coast of Canada. http://www.oil-electric.com/2009/04/port-townsend-today.html Now that would be a modeling challenge.
Very cool (and modelable) train! Here's my favorite armored train (from WWI): Could use a Bmann 70T or other 4-axle chassis and some styrene and poof! And then there's all the "Absurd Armored Trains" on this website. Thanks for sharing, John.
Yup a couple of troop cars, a kitchen car, and then some modified gons. Might be a little search for scale guns.
The Namibian and South African armored personnel carriers called "Padda" and "Casper", respectively, are awesome!
I was considering the possibilty of fitting a mech into the German armored models from Dragon/Cando. Here's a couple of armored 2' gauge trench railway locomotives (40hp) BTW - Worlds smallest armored train - RH&D Ry
Here is a picture of one that operated near where I am living in Europe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pancierovy_vlak-Zvolen.jpg
It's not Welsh - RH&D is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch in the South East of England. It's in Kent on the Romney marshes and is just a 50 minute drive away from me. It runs from Hythe to Dungeness and is 16.5miles long IIRC. It's near neighbour at Dungeness is the Nuclear Power Station, which is now being decommissioned. Why did it have an Amoured Train? Because Romney was a prime invasion site in 1939-40 and even earlier. In 1790's-1800's they built the Royal Military Canal across the Romney marches to stop Napoleon if he invaded
To add some info, the RH&D is 15" gauge. According to their history, they were also involved in building the PLUTO pipeline after the Normandy invasion.
