Arkansas & Missouri suffers washouts

    Due to heavy rains and severe flooding in northwest Arkansas, the Arkansas & Missouri suffered several washouts on its line through the Boston Mountains, stranding the northbound Ft. Smith Turn. At least one yard in the small town of Winslow was "rocked" by ballast washed out of the tracks.

    Repairs to the track are estimated to take several weeks.

    Incidentally, according to friends up that way, northwestern Arkansas received 12 inches of rain in that time frame. That is a lot of water, folks! :eek: :eek: [​IMG]

    Sounds like the A&M needed to install pontoons on their railcars. :D

    Well, I've spent significant time in that region. (Louisiana/Arkansas.) And it can come down in torrents. Have seen the same kind of damage many a time living up here in the Pacific NW. Happens every year. I believe someone once told me that all engines in the Washington Cascades had davits and lifeboats.......
