it seems i read/ect.. that they can be used with any dcc kit.. ex digitrax decoder mrc dcc system? is this ture and are their any problems with this. only runing new kato's and maybe (i might buy) atlas?
Yes, this is true. On my layout, which is powered by a Digitrax Zephyr, I have locos with Digitrax, Lenz, and TCS decoders. The difference between them is some have more optional features thans others.
I figgured the options would verry with each, but now hows about the digitrax zephyr? how do you like that. im thinking zephyr or mrc's cheep-er set. i dont know which way to go. does the zephyr have a way of adding places to hook up controler around the layout? thats about the bigest thing to me.
Speed_man: Yes, you can wire throttle jacks around your layout using what Digitrax calls "Loconet". They make a panel for about $15 called a UP-5. You could even make your own, using a phone jack outlet, as long as it's wired for RJ-12 type connectors. The cable (which is a 6 conductor phone cable) plugs into the back of the Zephyr.
I love the Zephyr. I've had it for over a year and it has performed flawlessly. Since then I've purchased a DT400 and resurrected a UT-1 that someone gave to me. The UT-1 throttle is dedicated to the yard switcher. My 4 year son runs the Zephyr unit and I run the DT400 and we have a BLAST! As Chris said, you can also expand the jacks so you can have connections around the layout. You can also get wireless or radio throttles so the question of expanding jacks becomes moot.
