Hi folks. Is anyone on the board attending the NRHS national convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul in a couple of weeks? Anyone riding and/or chasing the 261 steam excursions and the 2816 excursions? I will be in M-StP from July 1 through 5 and would like to meet other Trainboard members. Will be riding the July 3 doubleheader.
The MRHA convention is happening right now. I have seen many excited comments about riding these excursions, etc. But as yet no photos. Sure hope someone will post a few views! Boxcab E50
The countdown is now at 6 days and counting. I have been in touch with NET buddies whom I will rendezvous with in MSP. We plan to visit the 261 shops where both locomotives will be idle on July 1. Chase the trip on July 2, Ride July 3, and photograph July 4. Here's a shot of CP 2816 in her sorry state at Steamtown in 1995, long before her trip back to BC and restoration. See the "Need for Steam" thread for how she looks now-great!
I'm disappointed in my MRHA compatriots. Only a very few convention excursion photos have been posted anywhere. I wonder why? Boxcab E50
Ken, It's not too late to join the party. I am tempted to upgrade on the July 3rd trip to Skytop, as they are showing open seats on the Friends of the 261 site.
Oh, man, the foam is now rolling off my chin. Today on Altamont Press was an announcement that on the 2nd, when we plan to chase, not only will the 261 be running, but the CP 2816 will be running an employee only special to Red Wing where it will be on display all day. Departing from St. Paul Union Depot (SPUD), same as 261. I can visualize them side by side..................
