I have a BLI set of UP Centipedes where the lead unit #1600 has a dragging truck which keeps the wheels from contacting the track. I noticed the contact strip on that truck was 'showing' above the truck frame and then noticed the wheels were not protruding down from the truck enough to clear the bottom of the truck. I haven't tried to disassemble the locomotive yet... having Murphy's Law Syndrome... I'd rather see someone else disassemble it first to give me a clue as to any possible pitfalls. I'm good a finding pitfalls and not good a fixing them! The truck assembly on these beasts are kind-of flimsy looking... don't want to break something that has a particular method of disassembly foreign to me.

Your assistance would be appreciated... please provide photos of disassembly.

I haven't disassembled mine yet because there running great. Looking at the diagram, I would say your side frame is not installed all the way. There are two tabs, one on each end of the truck housing, there are holes in the side frame for these tabs to fit into. I would turn the locos up side down and make sure all the wheel sets are installed into the contact strip. If everything looks OK try to push the side frame into position until it snaps over the tab. You might need to use a small screwdriver to help hold the truck housing from moving.

I had that same problem with one of the trucks on my Centipede that rrjim1 describes exactly. As he said, I just pushed it back into place, and it snapped over the tap. The trucks seem to ride close to the rails, but I haven't had any "hang-ups", so I think it was a factory miss or shipping "shock" that caused the truck to be misaligned. After fixing the wheel gauge and my noise problem (the other thread) I'm very happy with the Centipede. So happy, I ordered another, SAL #4507 this morning!

I don't think you need to but that's your choice, I use a foam pad made to hold n-scale locos up side down. No the trucks do not pop off.
