I am waiting for the FP7, but don't see an espee bloody nose version. If and when Intermountain does one (well three or four) they get my money. Doc
NICE ACL & SOU units there. Interesting looking MILW units in UP colors. Something not offered every day. Wonder what years these were in service on the proto, and where they traveled to ?
It appears the FP7's date from 1949-1953, with F9's 1953-1960. Many of them were built for second line passenger service, depending on your line. In a AB combo, they could pinch in for an ailing E unit or add a little more TE for heavier mail trains. I'm not sure how many made it into Amtrak colors. Some MILW-C&NW units were used to pull 2-3 commuter cars. CRIP seems to have used anything on their runs. AFAIK some first generation units were rebuilt in the 1970's. IM must have other roads & schemes in mind. Since the F7 was EMD's all-time best seller, they need to do some for all the 1950-1960 Class 1's!
and the question is: which one should I order to strip the color off ? I would like to have two VIA Rail monsters...
hey steve.... good idea ... count me in for a via unit .....and since you owe me a favour you can't say no ... ;-) git defür es ragusa .... Rough translation: "I'll send you some Ragusa-brand chocolates." --Pete Nolan
Nice looking Milwaukee units. I was extremely happy with the F7s. Looks like another addition to the roster is on the horizon.
I gotta go with Steve on this one. Would really love to see these in undecorated. I could use a pair of A units in undecorated; not a big fan of stripping paint. I have the luxury of being able to wait to see if the next run produces undecs. I'm not in a huge hurry.
Where's the WP? Intermountain has done a pretty good job representing the WP F's mildly shcked they didnt release one here. Has to be in an upcoming run, cause they are no brainer for anyone with a Kato CZ set that wants to run something besides F3s, also the WP FP7s ended their career in freight service. Brad
Or "Where's the NP?" (Of course FP9's would be better, but FP7 will do ... would just need a few "extra" details ... mg: .... :shade: )
Pleased to see the humble little Reading got a nod. They had but 8 units. IM did them in HO, too. Even though the FP7As didn't make it to my tracks very often I might have to bite for a pair. Now if they would do an F3 or an F7. Never give up hope.
Regarding the ACL A Unit: Why is the roof line so different than the others. It does not have the front fan -(D.B ?) and the rear roof protrusions _ I thought that this part of the loco is where the Steam Generator went? (for passenger unit service) Aren't these all Passenger units ?
Just a guess (I really don't know). It's a "flatland" railroad so the dynamic brake is not needed. The same goes for the steam generator. It's ALWAYS warm in Florida
Does look like the units have the steam generator detail in the rear of the carbody, just the angle on that photo makes them less visable. Considering the ACLs grade profile they probably did not have the dynamic brake option.
