I planned on using Code 80 in all the buildings and transitioning to C55. I already did one building with C80, but then when I installed my Dayton Machine Shop I noticed that the groove wasn’t as deep so I used C55 instead and I like it much better because it was so much easier. When I tried it in my Car Shop the track is below the surface. I was wondering if anybody has overcome this problem.
I used Micro Engineering Code 55 in my Walters Car Shop and it looks and works great. I have have a pre-built machine co. building that I also used ME Code 55 in. Again, works great in it.
I wish I would have use ME instead of Atlas but they just didn’t have all the turnouts I needed and I didn’t want to make my own. now that I already have the Atlas installed i would have the same problem of transitioning the two tracks.
I use all ME code 55 track with Atlas turnouts. Some folks put shims (like piece of .010 styrene) under the Atlas turnouts so the rails line up more closely with the ME track but I never have. Works fine for me and never noticed a problem.
It's .020" styrene if you want to line up ME concrete tie track with Atlas turnouts. I've made a "base" made out of a turnout outline traced on the sheet for that. As for ME wooden tie track and Atlas turnouts, I've never needed such a shim, they seem to line up just fine.
Well if that’s the case then I’ll just pull the existing 3 Atlas tracks off of the turnouts and run ME all the way through the Car Shop. I need to order some ME Code 55 just to check it out. I wish I could get it locally, but I’m going t o have to order it.
One question, before I place my order for some ME code 55. Do I need to buy ME joiners or will the Atlas C55 work?
