i was wondering if any southerns still in southern paint are on the road someplace just another thought:tb-embarrassed:
I think NS repainted its last N&W and SOU engines 15 years ago. However, there is (or recently was) SOU power remaining elsewhere. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=169002 On the Carolina Southern, and a GP30 no less. This shot was taken last year, though, so I can't confirm it still exists. And check out the second unit - an ex-CN F9Bu!
In this album, you'll find plenty of rolling stock lettered for both Southern and N&W, plus pics of GP59 4610, painted green & lettered for the Southern.
The North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer has many Southern pieces of rolling stock and locomotives in running shape. As a matter of fact we took a loco cab ride in the FP-7 #6133 a few months ago, it was a blast!
