Hi all. I'm doing a project with a green BCRail SD40-2 and was looking for some help. I'm planning on relettering it for CP, but not repainting it. Anyone got pictures of CP locos renumbered/lettered but not repainted? Also, what is the number series on the CP SD40-2's? Thanks in advance for any help !
Actually, I don't think they got any. I just like the green BCRail scheme and thought that I'd just do this so I could have one of them running on the layout.
Check out the "CP roster 2004" topic in this forum. You could use the BCR unit as a "leased unit"? Does your layout represent a certain region on CP?
Thanks for the direction Milne. No particular region. I've got my own shortline (The Maple Leaf Central) and it interchanges with CP/BNSF and maybe a third(not sure on that yet). I've started the papermill and hope to get things going by end of summer. My wife's from Alberta, so I'm probally placing the layout along the border in the Northwest to justify the interchange.
All the BCR stock went to CNR as they bought out BCR. CPR didn't take over any of the lease units that BCR had. Some were re-numbered and had the logo of the CNR put on them. When they did this they painted over the BCR logo/numbers in the original green or as close as they could match it then put the CNR stuff on.
Thanks for the info Jim. I figured the CP didn't have any of these, but I liked the paintscheme. Since I'm not too concerned with following the prototype to the letter, I think this will be a cool addition to the roster. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
You could leave the unit in BCR Green and use it for CP lease power. I've seen a pic of one in such service in 1985. If your doing more modern stuff... All the SD40-2's on BC Rail roster were repainted into Red White and Blue. Not sure exactly when though. Some RWB SD40-2's got sold to a lease company and roamed the CP system in the late 90's. I think the lease company was Helm and their reporting marks were HLCX. grant
