    Daryl,
Excellent pictures and layout. How long is the intermodal train in the pictures?

Cool Daryl! [IMG] Do you have an intermodal yard to handle all those cars?

The train length is only 16 cars. However, three of the cars are 5 unit articulated and 3 others are three unit sets so that translates to 34 units, plus 4 or 5 of the 16 are 89 ft flats so that makes a little shorter than my 40 car length coal trains. This particular train can vary in length as cars are set out and picked up at the small intermodal yard in Nelson (pic #8) The car length is always 14-17 cars, but the actual length varies greatly depending on how many of the cars are single units and how many are 3 or 5 units.

I appreciate the kind comments regarding the layout. It is a lot of fun and thats the whole point! However, what my layout has in size and overall appeal as a model of a railroad system, it is offset by not having the depth of detail that others have. Contrast Alan's photo's with lots of great detail on each car with my photos which are more railroad scenes. Except for weathering, I have not done any detailing of locos or rolling stock.

Anyway, just as some may be impressed with "layout" I am just as, or even more impressed with the detail that is achieve by others on this board.

Nice photo's from everyone. Bring on more : ) How did you do the ground cover. I want to put some green and dirt looking ground cover down like you did on your layout. How can I do this and what materials did you use. I hope it's easy. I just want some basic scenery right now. How does everyone feel about those big grass rolls?

Another Daryl ( that is Daryl J.) and spelled the same way which is unusual : )

    Daryl,
That's a superb layout! Don't downgrade it cuz it's not as detailed as the Gorre & Daphetid, as I'm sure many of us at the 'Board think those pics are outstanding! I really like the long-snaking-thru-the-scene intermodal. It really tricked me into thinking it was 50-60 cars long.
It sure beats my layout.. *wonders where it is*
Oh, yeah! I don't have one yet... :(
My collection of stock is growing, tho.

Alan, sooner or later, I'm going to get my paws on a few of those spinecars, and Flatrack containers.

Daryl, I use Woodland Scenics ground foam for ground cover. It is available in various colors and grades. Check
here for a description of the scenery on my layout.

By the way, I do NOT like grass mats!

Great pics Daryl. I really like your layout. Keep up the good work. You have your priorities in order unlike me. You got the layout mostly complete and then started to worry about detailing the rolling stock and Locos. I try to do both and never get either totally complete. Only time can solve my problem!
