Saw on Trains.com the President will be doing a special lunch in College Station Texas with a specially painted UP SD70 #4141. You guys have any info on this? Supposed to come to Dallas on the 19th and back to College Station on the 20th. Might be a good photo op for someone down near CS or along the UP line to Dallas.
Hmmm,.. No clue on my part... It may be a good opportunity for UP to either: #1) display another "heritage" scheme, or #2), make another "special" scheme, such as their Desert STorm and United Way units. Harold
Actually, that is an Air Force One style paint job. OTOH, it is like all those airplanes in the squadron that fly the VIPs out of Washington, DC. AF One is assigned to that squadron. [edit] I should add that the Air Force airplanes do have "United States of America" on the side. [ October 18, 2005, 06:21 PM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
According to appendix of my history book teachers edition, George H. W. Bush ("the first") was 41st President of the United States
George H. W. Bush (41) presidential library has been doing a railroad thing this year with displays and historical stuff. UP decided to join the fun. I think GHWB is a big stockholder, but not sure.
Thanks for the "41" info. I guess when you hold enough stock in UP to buy a locomotive, you can get it painted any way you want....
You know, I think my HO club, SAMRA (San Antonio Model RR Association) is going to display modules there. I am, as usual, ignorant of the whole thing. But, I think the confab for the display is going to last one or two weeks. Maybe it is one or two weekends. I know that our guys are looking for motel rooms there in College Station.
All this hoopla is to kick off the "Trains: Tracks of the Iron Horse" series of exhibits at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station. Our club will set up our NTRAK layout at the Library from Feb. 17 through the 26. The Rosenberg Railroad Museum is also loaning them a large number of artifacts for exhibit. Some of us will be staying at the Manor House Inn in town and others out at my place in Hearne.
Overland has anounced a model of this locomotive looks like N scale to me, but I have given up on brass. Found the link over at N scale supply. steve
Good question. I am surprised they duplicated numbers. Can't you check the engine or reporting mark somewhere on the UP site?
From what I understand, the original 4141 was renumbered to 3xxx............I saw it somewhere but cant remember exact number.
Weren't they going to unveil the next heritage loco on or around the 23rd? I never heard or seen anything since the Katy unit.
