My pal has decided to get into N scale, however he's also decided he wants to do a small shef type layout that is in an industrial area and uses alot of street running. I'd figure we're taling about an 18-20" shelf and about 6-8' long (probally an "L"). Wasn't there a shelf type plan like this in last years Model Railroader's Small Track plans book or something like that? Any help would be appreciated.
Same as Paul, I don't have the mag near me at the moment, but there was an issue of Model Railroad Planning that had an L shaped layout with an industrial theme based on a SOO Line branch line. I'm not sure if street running was featured but changes could be made to accomodate that. Others from memory include the N scale Kingsbury Branch and a HO layout on the New Haven - both with street trackage although not L shaped but again a small rework would solve that
Street running is something I always wanted, but never incorporated into a layout Yes, I remember the one mentioned in MR and was tempted!
Street running = Fort Collins. Nothing like parking up your pair of BN SD9's and short train in the parking lot (read centre of main street) and going for beans!
I've heard about Ft Collins. We're going up to Colorado next year, so I'll stop there if at all possible. I watched a video from Pentrex called Street Running last night. If any of you are interested in trains and cars playing together, check it out.
