    Hi,

I have a crossing on my layout which I have to watch so the two trains wouldn’t t run into each other. I was wondering if there is an automatic device to stop one train and let the other pass.

    Thanks.

    Mo:)

I'm no electronics genius, please understand.

I am using a bit of random guessing here but I believe you could use sensors for signals to activate a relay controlling the power to either side of a diamond.

When one side is powered it kills a short block approaching the other side of the diamond. When the sensor clears the relay clears and either side can activate the relay.

As I type I see one challenge. If two trains approach the diamond at the same distance and speed it would still be possible to have a "cornfield meet". Personally, I'd be willing to play the odds.

    george,
i think even your cornfield meet could be avoided one of two ways.

    1. if doing analog (not sure how DCC would work), one track has priority. it would be some kind of logic setup. if both are triggered, the one always overrides the others

    2. if doing with dcc, not sure of process, but you might be able to devise it as to train priority assignment based off of the consist....

    just my 2¢
