I posted some images of UP 1996 but forgot this one.

I wish UP would send this one to California! I'm an SP fan but the MP unit is my favorite of the heritage units. :)

Does UP only run the heritage units in the fallen flags' former trackage, or they just run them systemwide? I'm modeling former SP territory but I might get UP 1989 tomorrow; I think it looks nicer than UP 1996.

Yeah as far as I'm understanding, each unit travels those lines it represents. Thus I get the SP and WP units here in Nor-Cal but would love to see the rest.

Maybe they do that most of the time, or that is what they currently are doing. It has not always been the case, as I've seen pictures of the Katy unit in Oakland CA and the CNW and WP in Los Angeles.

Okay, that's good to know, thanks. Besides, 1989 wasn't the year UP bought DRGW, but the year DRGW bought the SP and assumed its name! So SP trackage IS DRGW trackage! :)

The 1982, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1995, 1996 have came through Blair, or been seen on the way to or from blair. I've seen all of them from Cheyenne to Blair, many different ocasions of course.

    UP Heritage Tracking

Hey Guys... I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any websites, twitter posts, etc.. that help track the location of the heritage units. I have been trying to get in-person sighting of 1 or more of the units here in Northern California and I am trying to find a way to improve m chances. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Trainorders.com forums have the skinny, but you have to pay to be a member. There's also Railfan.net, which has a free forum.

    Knew I should duck. :D

Ok, ok as far as I rate them, it would go MP, SP, DRGW, MKT, then the others.

My son tells me the DRGW one has been covered in graffiti.:tb-mad: Hope U.P. do something about it.

BTW, the CNW unit just made an appearance at Roseville,CA. So I guess some of them do roam here and there at times. Never got an opportunity for a shot. :(

Unfortunately I think the only thing UP will do about it is repaint it in UP colors sooner.:tb-sad:

From what I am understanding, UP has a program in place to keep these units looking good. Replacing torn decals, cleaning grafitti, etc. We'll see.

Hmm, I haven't heard anything regarding that. Certainly I'd hear all about it on the railfan forums and see pics of it by now if it were true. But even if it were, the UP keeps all the heritage units practically spotless, they might have had it removed already.

That's nice to know; hate to see history not kept up.
