Over the last two days I have installed the lower superstructure railings, bollards, and hawse pipes, and another set of vent stacks plus the lifeboat davits. 100_0007-1 by John Moore posted Aug 19, 2022 at 7:57 AM
Wrapping up my ship building for this year with the completion of the interisland freighter of the IJM Lines, the Friday Harbor home ported in Friday Harbor Washington State. The ship was launched in 1918 as a small lumber carrier that was purchased by the IJM lines in late 1945. The ship was given a total up grade starting with installation of two Fairbanks Morse diesel engines. The fore hold was divided into three holds, two refrigerated and a freezer and the two main holds were combined into a larger hold capable of holding trucks and heavy equipment. and building supplies. The ship electronics was upgraded with a short range and a long range radar and enhanced radio gear. The ship was also equipped with bow and stern thrusters and with her shallow draft can get into the smallest harbor. The ship has a crew of 12 and passenger accommodations for 10 t0 12 people. The work was carried out by ACME Marine services in Friday Harbor at their ship repair and drydock facility in Friday Harbor. 100_0008-1 by John Moore posted Aug 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM 100_0010-3 by John Moore posted Aug 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM 100_0011-4 by John Moore posted Aug 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM 100_0013 by John Moore posted Aug 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM Weathered with Bragdon Powders for rust and salt spray. And It all started with this hunk of cedar wood board and some parts salvaged from a ship destroyed by a feline, some ordered parts, and a number of workbench built parts. 100_0014-5 by John Moore posted Aug 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM
