I have tried a few times to become a member but for some reason or another could not until today. I live in southwestern Montana, and model the area I live in (freelance) in 1957, to be able to still run some steam and also first generation diesels in HO scale.
I grew up in southwestern Montana and having relatives that worked for both the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road, was able to spend many many hours enjoying riding in the cabs of both railroads. I was hooked on trains then and still am now.

Hi Montanan, Welcome to the TrainBoard, happy to have you on board. We have a few guys in Montana, Idaho, and western Washington who might be close. OK, I'll admit I'm a New Englander with no concept of how B-I-G western states are, but they might be closer than a day's ride.

Welcome aboard, Montanan. Are there any semaphores left there near where you live? I once chased 4449 into Montana hoping to catch her splitting some semaphores, but did not know the territory well enough. Got her with a single one, though.

There are no more in use, but some can be found, and believe me, they are a bit pricey.

I can remember when 4449 came into Montana. I had forgotten all about it until I saw it coming in the opposite direction eastbound from Belgrade, MT. Darn near killed myself authorizing myself to make a U turn in the median and managed to get some good shots as she was climbing Bozeman Pass.

I think 4449 counts as good cause for less than perfect driving...good to have you along!

Welcome aboard! Like Hank, I'm a fellow New Englander but would have to say the GS4 is my all time favorite locomotive and would love to see pictures you took from that day.

I spent some time in New England in my travels and managed to visit some layouts and do some rail ranning. A visit to George Sellios Franklin & Manchester was a highlight for me. I akso did an open house at a model railroad club that was excellent, but I can't remember the name. I did buy a box car lettered for the club, "East Coast Lines". I make it a point to visit layouts whenever possible while traveling.

Having been a state trooper years back, I try not to break the law, but the sign in the middle of the interstate said "authorized vehicles only". It just took a second to authorize myself and run the train down. As for the pictures, I'm going to have to look for them. They are put away in a safe place. Now all I have to remember where the safe place is. I never got them scanned and digitized.

Looooong drives. For example, it is a six hundred plus mile round trip for me to get into the area where montanan resides, and back home. And that is just half way across this State.

If I recall correctly, the project removing those should have been done about a year or so back. I need to check....
