    Hi,

    A short introduction -

I am a very long time modeller, starting in 4mm scale and now in G scale which I ghave been building in for quite a while now.

I live near Manchester in England, and have a garden railroad that is based somewhat loosley on the Denver, South Park & Pacific RR of the 1880s.

I am building most of it, as it is difficult, and expensive to get kits here, and I am retired - so the efforts keep me busy, and building myself is much cheaper.

I am also a member of myLargescale.com, who have helped me a huge amount in building rolling stock. I joined that as they were starting to build a Mason Bogie; which is my favorite loco (hence the DSP&PRR): that was eventually built and much, much more had been added since.

Part of the layout is a small hamlet that occupies an area that in in a sun shadow - it does not get much there! The hamlet is being extended, and I have just finished a large extension that has a scratchbuilt Howe Truss bridge and a trestle approach to it.

That having been almost finished - some extra wiring is needed, but at the moment I am back inside (with bad weather here), building one of the early boxcars of the DSP. to keep my rolling stock building hands in trim.

The railroad is called 'Sycamore Creek', and occupies part of my two lawns - well there had to be some way of reducing them!

I build from plastic sheet, using a lot of PVC solid foam sheet (you the the USA call it Sintra I think), and styrene card- both are very good and easy to work with.

    Yours Peter

Welcome aboard Peter, I'm EMD Trainman the G scale moderator and glad you could join us here. It's nice to have someone aboard who makes thier own models.

Building your own models, especially buildings is getting more popular here in the USA because buildings made by Piko or Pola come from Germany and are real expensive for us here. There is a couple of manufacturers who offer platistic styrene preformed sheets of simulated brick wall, stone wall, wood plank wall, etc.

Take a look around and ejoy yourself, if you have any questions you can send me a message in a pm. Also at the bottom of the G scale section you can open the post to the last 2 weeks, last month, 45 days, 90 day and 1 year. Only the most active posts stay current for a week.
