After I set a CV value and then read it back, it always comes up P255 no matter what CV I'm reading back....

    Oh yeah, Zephyr :D

Also re-installed decoder to make sure it wasn't loose.

I have one Digitrax decoder in a SD-26 that does the same thing. If I read any CV it shows 255 but I can write to it and it accepts the change. Since it takes the change I never pursued it further but I did notice the other day when I went to change CV29 from 50 to 51 the decoder all of a sudden started to read back the correct value.

Must be a bug in the chip. I also use a Zephyr. Does your decoder accept the changed value?

Supposedly, but the loco still performs at the default (i.e. warp speed) rate.
