    Hi,

Well I tried searching and could not find the answer I know was submitted before. I think it would be great if the Trainboard folks would have a sticky thread with the coupler conversions listed, maybe start with this one.

What I am trying to find is the correct coupler to convert the following Kato Locomotives. I can not stand the long shank couplers and would rather have MT over spend more money on Kato short shank couplers.

1 - New release of the SD45, does not use the 1015 like the original unit did. At least not without some filing or cutting of the pocket.

    2 - The Kato ES44 Gevo

    3 - The Kato SD70ACe

    And last but not least

    4 - The Kato NW2

    Thanks for the help!

Don't know about the other ones, but the NW-2 is pretty simple.
I just popped out the clip and stock coupler and put in MT 905s:

MT 905 on the left, stock on the right.

There's a little wiggle when placing the 905 into the space: I just tacked the back with CA and haven't had a problem in 2 years.

    Hope this helps.

    the NW2 is a 2004.

Micro-trains recommends opening the pilots for quite a few different Katos to fit the couplers.

Guessing you already know about the micro-trains conversion pages, http://www.micro-trains.com/ConversionsN.php

I used the short shank couplers designed for the NW-2 for my Gevos (would also work with the ACe), part no. 923503. Works really well, but if you want MTs, you can use either 1015s (but then you have to file away the two tabs in the pilot) or 2003s (1015 shanks inside a 2004 draft gear box). 2004s would sit too high.
