    I remember the local Kmart [Dolton IL] when I was a kid had Tyco single cars there.

    Among the "big-box" department stores of the 1970s where I lived in New Jersey that carried model trains were Korvettes, Great Eastern and Two Guys. Two Guys is well known for its legendary After-Christmas Sales, when they had stock available that they didn't have before Christmas! Since Two Guys was here in Western New York as well, it's not unusual to see items at train shows that still have their price stickers.

    Branch Brook Company, which had several locations in New Jersey, was much better known for selling pools, but also had model trains particularly at Christmas. They also had a lot of Christmas decorations... pools don't sell well in the Fall and Winter.

    And we cannot leave out Woolworths...
