greetings all, Check out this bid on "that place", it is auction 6054096767. ONLY $280 for an Atlas trainmaster. What am I missing that it should sell for such a cheap price? Paul f
This is a special run locomotive (as is stated in the description) that was done to go with a series in N-scale representing various cars from the 6464 cars that Lionel did in 0-27. The 6464 special run car series was popular and the locomotives were very limited in number; therefore, quite rare and very collectable.
Rett is right on, but even so, $280 seems to be at the high end. You had two highly motivated bidders, as is often the case when a price "spike" occurs.
If I get this right, the Atlas Trainmaster SP #4802 and 4805 sells around $50, as well as the unnumbered one and if I slap a 6464 number on the last one, I can sell it for $280. Please tell me this is true and I will print out some numbers tonight.
Collectors place their own values on stuff, and this collector was willing to pay $280. In 1980, I had a choice of two 1970 Maserati Ghiblis: a perfectly decent model for $16,000, or Elvis's "customized" model for $125,000. Elvis's had tacky Centerline wheels instead of the beautiful original Compagnalias, and a few other oddities. Both of them sold quickly. Oh, I bought the cheaper one.
