II wonder how many marriage proposals Sandro gets from these message boards? Or, just proposals to steal away for the weekend for.....a little model railroading?

My spending has dropped, at the request of the wife, and in consideration of the fact that she is laid off and my business is down. Also, my layout is built and equipped, and I am not as prone to buy a dozen box cars, etc. I know now there will be more next month! When I switched to N in 1990, I bought a lot of SD-40's etc. to get a full fleet. Some have not yet left the box.

To the nitty gritty (looks over shoulder) those damn credit card companies send itemized annual statements about this time of year. My records show a drop from $4800 in 2000 to $1200 last year. I expect this year will be about $1200. I spend some in cash, so I add about $400 to each estimate.

The depressing thing is adding up expenditures from 20 plus years in the hobby, going back to when my brother convinced me to break the piggy bank full of silver dollars for one of the Atlas Six you can build layouts.

Add big ger expenditures in 1980 for a 5 X 9 HO layout, buying an existing HO 4 X 16 layout for my former garage for close to $600, and also buying parts of an old N layout as a starter for my newest layout in 1990, plus collectoritis in all years, and you have a spent much denaro!

Of course, I have enjoyed it all. But at some point, threads like this (or just plain realism) makes me think I could have been 10% more careful with my money.
