Hi all G scalers, for those who don't know me by now I am the G scale moderator and try to keep this section running smoothly. I would like to touch a couple of subjects in this thread for both first time new people to this board and G scale while also reaching out to thos G scalers that have been here for a while.

I know I touched this first subject already but want to go back over it again My first subject is that although I like USA Trains and seem to touch alot of subjects about USA Trains, my intention is not to make the G scale section just about USA Trains. I more than welcome anyone to post threads on any make manufacturer such as LGB, Piko, Bachmann, Lionel, Aristocraft, Hartland, ect. I don't care if you want to post battery powerd trains such as New Brite. I make a promise to those not to post and negative remarks in those threads that are not USA Trains. I had my bad experiences on other make trains and I'm passed that point.

Next I would like to say that although this section has a G scale gauge #1 scale subject, I encourage everyone to post here who runs on gauge #1 45mm track or runs G scale narrow gauge no matter what scale you model in. Having broad span like this will make this section better I believe. So whether you have Gn15 train or a Fn3 train, I welcome you to post subjects and pictures here.

You may have noticed my USA Trains info registry, it has grown so big that it now appears on a google search which brings you to this board. Anyway I also encourage and support those who want to start something similiar for LGB, or Aristocraft or any other manufacturer.

I also will support anyone who wants to post battery operated G scale trains on this board. We all have to start somewhere. I started out with a Bachmann G scale SilvertonFlyer and now look at my layout.

Newbies: Those who are new to this board, please make sure you read and undestand the board rules before you post anything. Also here are some tips that may make things easier for you after joining. Post a introduction thread: Introduce yourself, what G scale trains you like to buy, what era you model in and a little info on your layout. Also posting a few pictures of your layout will help others who been on the board to know you a little better and will help you fit in faster o the board. Many times I see newbies make one or two short posts and then give up on the board.

Also on another note, make sure you are aware of the display options block below the Threads in G scale section. The default is set from the last week which means the G scale section will only show one past weeks worth of threads. You can open the option to go back as far as one year and you will find many subjects to view.

Now I will touch a subject that is sensitive to many, especially newbies. The rules of the board is to protect the board, especially legally. So even though some rules seem to be alot of censorship at first to those who don't understand how the laws work, but trust me when I say we don't want to censor people, but we do have to protect the board from legal issues. One of he biggest things that lawyers like is the slander laws. For example if I said that EMD Trainman hobby shop has bad deals and they suck, this would be a good case for slander. Some other boards may not have the same rules, but this board has been around for a while and they have more experience than other newer boards.

Also we all have to remember that the G scale hobby is very broad in itself. There are those who buy commercial models, those who kitbash, those who run DCC, those who run track power. So don't get disappointed when you don't get responses or alot of responses on your subject you posted. Patience is needed here.

We do have alot of great G scale train members here who have alot of experince in different subjects. The one subject I can see that the G scale section could use more experienced people in DCC and battery operations to answer peoples questions who are new to to DCC and battery operations.

Using pm as a option is allowed, if you want to give out a name of a hobby shop for instance that you got a good deal on or has a special run, you can pm someone the name. Using the pm part of Train Board is a great way to keep in touch with freinds or contacts, just make sure you keep it respectful.

Newbies: Just to let the new people to the G scale section know when you do start a subject and you see us people who been here in a while chime in on your thread, it may seem like we are arguing or getting off subject, but we are actually learning from each other while trying to answer your questions.

So I"m sure all of you are wondering what prompted me to post this subject on hand. I just happen to notice a turn over of people joing the Train Board G scale section and wanting to quit within a couple of weeks. I don't think the newbies coming to Train Board G scale section are giving this board a fair shake and understanding of how we work. So I'm trying a little casulty control here

On the last note: I myself have to follow the same rules and as a moderator I have to answer to the upper staff and what they decide is final.

    Questions or Concerns

If any of the G scalers here have any questions, concerns or comments you can post to this thread. I realize I maybe opening myself up to alot of punishment, but I feel it's necessary to let steam off in a constructive way or just make a simple freindly observation. I would like to see members stay here once they join.

I know for instance sometimes the G scale section can be stale or what I mean have no new post for a while, but alot of us work or run outside so many of us run trains on a schedule and post when we start running our trains or working on them again once we have time. So new posts may not come every day, but they do happen.

Soon to be here 2 years for me

It will be 2 years this June 2010 for me since I joined Train Board. I really can't imagine belonging to another site. I have belonged to other sites before hand in which I don't want to list names here but I found this one to be the better. I have met alot of nice people on the board and found the upper staff to be very supportive and helpful. There is also other members who have been on this board for a long time and I believe this is a great place for getting information on many subjects and seeing pictures others have posted. I look foward to being here a long time and getting to know others who may join here.

On behalf of the G scale people on the board I went to the upper staff to get a compramise on the no hooby shop name rules, they agreed so here they are.

We are now allowed to post a hobby shop name in relation to a custom run product

We are now allowed to post a hobby shop name when mentioning products they manufacturer

We are now allowed to mention distributors for G scale trains. Walthers for example is ok to mention as a distributor as they directly distribute LGB trains

We are NOT allowed to post links to any hobby shop unless a manufacturer

We are NOT allowed to make positive or negative comments about a hobby shop, keep you subjects on the products they sell and on G scale trains only.

We are NOT allowed to mention prices

We are NOT allowed to post links to a hobby shop unless they are a direct store for trains they manufacture or they are also a manufacturer. Charles Ro we be for example ok to mention as they are a direct G scale store.

We got a compramise between the board and the the hobby stores who sponsor Train Board, Please respect both and so we don't loose the freedoms we won for the G scale section.

Please feel free to go back and re-edit any names that I may have taken out. You can now put the full real name in.

Any other questions or concerns please pm me, thats what I'm here for. To help out.
