    You need to know.

Just when you thought you had seen it all. Here is another new announcement or so it appears. There again this may have already played out and I missed it. News to me!

    http://www.wheelsotime.com/

Harriman style SP & UP Commute type coaches, micro trains couplers and an all day diner car and more.

Pricey........ and I don't see any lettering in the pictures. Still this is something I've waited most of my adult life to see, in any scale. It's about time.

Thought you might like to get in on the good news.

I hope we don't get into another SP color "war." Somehow the color of the pre production model seems darker than the original WOT baggage car shown in this photo.

These were not just commuter cars. They appeared on quite a few SP trains beyond the commuter.

We've been advertising them at significant discounts for about 6 weeks.

    I'll stick with...

...my Bachmann shortys and keep buying them as long as I can find 4 or five more.

I just can't throw that much change around, heaving nickles like manhole covers.

Good luck and let me know how ya made out. I want the "thrill" photo factor.

    Mark and all,

If it makes you feel any better I've already depleted my bank account, limited savings and ran up that non-existing credit card to tilt with all the items announced this month. There's no way I can jump into the reserve pool and order ahead of time. I may have to wait until I find these items at a local model railroad swapmeet 20 years from now.

How do I do it. Well, I priortize and purchase only those items I have cash for. One thing at a time and keep my wish list active. If you don't have hope what do you have?

    Ben,

It appears you are already in on this. I love it. Once again I'm the last one told and the first one...... to think it's new. I'l bet you thought I was going to say something else. I was but it doesn't work here.

I do remember you posting this picture here on TB. What a month ago?

Those cars look good and I agree there appears to be a color difference. Your cars look like they have been around a while and faded. Instant weathering....can't beat that.

They already have the two-tone grey bi-Levels.

Those on the site are green, but I would assume that at some point, WOT will issue them in grey. Maybe at about the same time, Kato will issue its GS-4 in black. There ya' go: a late steam era SF Peninsula train. Put it on an N-TRAK layout and watch the Scale Rule Richards try to fume about bi-Levels behind steam.

Too bad no one sells an Mt, a P-8 or P-10. You could have some grey Harriman subs, some bi-Levels and four silver cars with the red stripe for the Peninsula section of the DelMonte. When I was in N-TRAK, I ran a similar train, but with C-C and RR cars (not quite accurate) and torpedo boat GP-9s as power (often the power for this train in the late 1960s). Between it an my version of the Coast Mail (C-C PAs in Daylight, various head and and express cars and a HW combine on the end; referred to by my fellow club members at the time as my 'ugly mail train') there were some comments from the public.

If Kato ever does the GS-4 in black and I ever get back into N-TRAK, I can have a steam version of various Peninsula trains. I do have the C-C black GS-4, but the font is not quite correct.

Anyhow, thanks for the heads, I will wait for grey cars.

I got to fondle some of the painted samples when Matthew stopped by on Tuesday. These are gorgeous cars. He did a great job on the design, the cars are weighted well, fit well, and feel very solid. The truck is new as well, and is a 3-piece deign that locks together properly to avoid past issues with multiple piece trucks. The couplers are MTL T-shanks, which isn't ideal, but body mounting should be easy for those that desire it.

Painting and printing looked good also. These should be a big hit.

Not thrilled with the fact that production will only accommodate pre-orders - with no overrun. Not willing to shell out that much for a UP or SP coach set that I would need to strip and repaint into some other road name. I just don't get it - why can't manufacturers/distributors get it that there is a market for undecs or painted and unlettered - after all, production is being planned according to pre-orders...

I just don't like this culture of if you don't pre-order, you just ain't gonna ever have a chance to get it.

I like to look at a product in person for the most part before I buy...

This is not likely to change. There is the possiblity of resales on auction sites but based on past history not many WOT items are resold. Nice enough or unique enough to be "keepers." :)

It would be great if they offered single cars, I'd like a few baggage and an RPO, I've seen several pics of the SP overland and coast mail that used these as head end cars. I'm just not interested that much in the coaches.

WOT has previously offered baggage cars and RPO in resin cast. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in plastic eventually. Especially if the coaches sell well.
