Kevin, you know that I am really enjoying these progress photos, and thank you for posting them here. Are you the photographer? If not, can you point out some shots that you are in? I forgot that the 2900s had roller bearing rods. That one shot looks like they are in good shape. :tb-biggrin:
Okay, but the best one is me looking fat... (Grin) http://www.nmslrhs.org/images/photos/12-29-07/slides/PC290060.html I am on the left side just before we pulled out a super-heater element. Regards, Kevin
Thanks, Kevin. Heck, except for your beard, I can see myself in the mirror there! You guys (and gals) keep up the good work there. You are doing something wonderful. :tb-biggrin:
(Thinking) Yeah that’s it! (Grin) I was hunched over because of the smoke box, Yeah that's it, the smoke box... Sigh, time for more trips up and down the stairs at work. Regards, Kevin
More photos, BTW check out our site home page. there is a new (at least to me) photo of a line up of 2900s with the 2926 in front. (Grin) 11-27-10 12-5-10 Regards, Kevin
12-5, one view has the "2926" stamp- How many parts have you guys found so far, that have such an loco specific identifier? Boxcab E50
A few parts came from other locomotives. For example, the ones I can think of off the top of my head: Left crosshead: 3778 Guts of hotwater pump: 3776 The compressors are not original. They are from unknown locomotives.
Clem- I was wondering if there'd be some obvious parts from other lokeys. Probably salvaged from scrapped stuff and re-used. Boxcab E50
The wheels and axles are all 2926. The last thing that has park paint are the rods. I wouldn't be surprised if they are a mix + match set. The crossheads/rods were a package from Timken. The tender is 2926's. I spent part of my afternoon a few Fridays ago looking over the 2912 in Pueblo. The moving end link that attaches the link block to the locomotive's frame had 2900, 2907, 2909 stamped in it. The driving axles had various road numbers stamped into the hub. It is a bigger hodge podge of parts... it seems 2926 is mostly 2926.
Probably the last set from this year, (Grin) 12-18-10 and 12-22-10 More to come next year.... Regards, Kevin
So, we are left until next year, with two mysteries? That rattling plug and the stuck side rod..... Argh! Suspense! Boxcab E50
Grin, My guess on the rattly plug, is that it is a temperature sensor. (I have similar plugs on my "White 550s".) The side rod will come off, it will just take time and caution, the goal is better than a standard shop rebuild. We have the time to do it right. Regards, Kevin
Thanks again, Kevin. Interesting that some of those rod bearing surfaces look great and others are corroded. :tb-confused:
Actually I think those are before and after photos. The Crud turned out to be mostly grease and light corrosion. So far the roller bearings look good. (Grin) Regards, Kevin
