My, how beautiful those side rods look, like they just came out of the factory. Roller bearing side rods are particularly good looking because of those ends that fit on the roller bearings.
Here you go, another set. (sorry for the delay, I was in Moab, UT for a week in an attempt to get caught up on some writing) http://www.nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/03-16/index.html Regards, Kevin
Every time I look through these photos, I cannot help but to think of how lucky the group is, having such skilled welding and machining people aboard.
Thank you, thank you once again for the progress photos. It is simply amazing what your group is doing. Robert
Here is the latest set, they were put up today. http://nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/03-23/index.html Regards, Kevin
Sure does seem to be a lot of counterweight welding ongoing. Is this because further checking uncovered more flaws? Or were they known all along? I agree that Carlos is a superb welder. I have worked in steel fabrication and railcars. Seen many a welder and their product. He is really good.
I really don't know, probably around 350-400 lb. I do know two people can move a section. The rods were sold by Timkin as light weight alloy systems. Next set of photos. http://www.nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/03-30/index.html Regards, Kevin
That is fantastic! All the rods on and able to move the locomotive. There is no doubt that this engine will run some day. Once you get all the appliances and staybolts done, then there is just the tubes, flues, superheaters, cab, paint, ummmm, a LOT left to do, but your crew is very dedicated.
Amen. That steam exhaust pipe that Carlos fabbed, is that to replace one of the items victim of theft?
Yes it is. New pic of pipe in this block of photos. http://www.nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/04-13/index.html Regards, Kevin
We never heard anything, there was a reward that was much greater than the scrap price, but nothing... Better security now and more care for the equipment has been the club reaction. More photos, http://www.nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/04-20/index.html Regards, Kevin
Here the club is getting ready for National Train Day. With more achievements included. http://www.nmslrhs.org/Photos/2013/04-27/index.html Regards, Kevin
