Well guys, the Indiana Northern Railroad is no more. I've decided to scrap my modeling plans and backdate my (yet to be started) layout by a few years. I've decided to collectively model and collect equipment from four lines, the Wabash, Nickel Plate, DT&I, and Erie-Lackawanna, in the early to mid 1906's. The first three I have personal connections to (WAB and DT&I ran through my hometown and I volunteer on an ex-NKP line) and the E-L is just an interesting railroad to follow. My next move is to hack out a track plan for a small layout (no sense buiding a basement monstrosity when I'll be moving out in a few years) and sort through my current rolling stock to see what can be salvaged. Anyone else make a similar change recently? :D

    Hi Brian,

Since 1993 when I decided to switch from French prototype HO scale to North American N-scale,
I have been studying, made trackplan, track and rolling stock purchase, kitbuilding and so on for the following RR and locale :

1° U.P mainline in Wyoming in transition era
2° A.T.S.F branchline in Kansas (with a nice diorama since gone to wastebin)
3° A.T.S.F San Joaquin valley line in transition era (big bucks spent on KATO warbonnet F7 and zebra stripes ATLAS GP7, trackwork made on 12 feet by 2 feet shelf with 15 turnouts completely wired)
    4° S.P branchline in Oregon, 70's era
5° Right now, envisionning a shelf layout depicting Camas Prairie RR 2nd sub in the 50's (or the 70's ?)benchwork completed, trackwork under way...

For all these years, I never have been able to FINISH a single layout...made the neighboring home improvement and lumber dealer owner a millionnaire, and experience harsh time with my beloved wife...had to spend even more bucks for her than to my railroad, which is not a understatement...
However I consider myself a true modelrairoader and never go to see a psychiatrist, being affraid of going out with two tough boys in white suit...

Talk about change of focus ?
You met the right man :D

    Hope this helps,
    Marc

Marc, my first layout (HO) was started in 1947, never got past laying track! My eighth layout (N) was started in January 2000, I now have more scenery (2 scenes in 6 square feet) than I have ever had .... I hope to finish more scenery before I die in 20-30 years :D

I finally began to enjoy our hobby when I stopped feeling guilty about becoming disatisfied and then ripping up an unfinished layout to build the next one

    Hi Hank,

Having begun modelling in the 40's, don't you think you are a bit optimistic when talking of 20-30 years as the end of the line ? :D
Remember, we are in 2001 ;)
But considering the progress of N-scale for instance since 30 years, if medical care follow the same trend, you should be able to model even by 2050 [IMG]
I strongly suggest that we begin a "never completed layout builder" forum on this board !

    Happy (and lasting) modelling,

    Marc

OK guys, you've prompted me to add my nickles worth! I've been model railroading for 32 years now and have only built a few modules of my own. I have helped our club do a few 'raffle railroads', but they were a group effort. I currently have 1 1/4 N scale modules under construction. I'd like to proclaim that 1 of them is finished, but I keep saying stuff like, 'hey! look at that! I could add that to the module!' I know that 'resistance is futile', it's only a matter of time before I make more changes. If you do start a new forum call it 'procrastinators annonymous'

    2slim  :D

    Hi 2slim,

I love "procrastinators anonymous", it sounds a bit "chemical" or "hazmat", isn't it ?
As I have already told one fellow on this board,
I guess, we, modelrailroaders have several lives to live (7 like cats, what do you think ?),to model every locale, era, scale and prototype we like.
As procrastinators, we just have taken some advance on others, that 's all.
Beside, we can proudly state that we resolve the "maintenance headache" issue definitely.
My confusion lays in the way my beloved wife look at me when she realize I have again changed of focus.
Solution:Instead of going to my hobbyshop, I go to her's, I cannot miss it, there a sign saying :
    "jewellery" above the door :D

    Procrastinely yours,
    Marc

Gee Marc, I'm ONLY 66  , and my father lived to be 91  . I figure with the advances in medical technology that you refer to, I should live to be 125 years .... YUK

Seems like a lot of members have been modeling for 30-40 years. I started anew with HO Feb. 2001, am 72, and new to trainboard. Does the logic then let me do it until Feb. 2041?

I notice a lot of us refer to "beloved wife". I conclude that means "female (at least for me) that 'just doesn't understand' model trains". And that we use the term in case our beloved wife sees the site because we are cautious cowards hoping to not have to add more matching money to the jewelry pool.
